Modern people are living under permanent influence of electromagnetic radiation - we have microwave ovens, cell-phones, etc. A radar in general terms is a kind of gigantic microwave cooker but working all the time with almost no breaks. The missile defense radars are active at not only the time of ballistic missile strike repel but also when there are tests, maneuvers, training detection of garbage in space or spacecrafts. Experts and developers believe that the missile defense radars can produce electromagnetic field over vast territories.
The missile defense radar placed by the US in Turkey is claimed to be targeted at the surveillance of hypothetical missiles launched from the territory of Iran. So its range must not exceed 1500 kilometers. At the same time experts are sure that the main goal of the missile defense system being deployed in Europe is observation of missile activity over Russian territory. That means that in the future Washington would need extend the range of the missile defense radar what leads to increase of its power of radiation. Anyone can understand what does that means.
Early warning radars with detection range of 500-600 kilometers have the power of radiation of 0.4-0.5 megawatts and consumed power of 1 megawatt. The missile defense radar with detection range of 2500-4000 kilometers can produce 1.2-1.5 megawatt pulse and consume 90-100 megawatt of energy. The power of 3.5-5.0 megawatt and more is needed in transmitted pulse to detect longer range targets. It can be easily imagined the power needed for such radar.
Military understand quite well the danger posed to environment by the missile defense radar radiation. That's why they always tried to locate radar stations far from densely populated regions. Such places could be easily found on vast territories of the United States of USSR but authorities of both countries built huge metal screens at a certain distance from the missile defense radars to protect local population.
Turkey is quite densely populated country. Turkish government agreeing to deploy the missile defense radars on the territory of its country in fact makes hostages out of its own citizens especially kids more sensitive to negative influence of electromagnetism. Americans won't care about protection of the population and this huge problem will rise before local authorities. Dense population and infrastructure of Turkey will make expenses on protective screens if they are built finally 5-6 times higher than in both abovementioned superpowers. The energy needed to the missile defense radar can be compared to the one consumed by average city.
